At WPB Shutters, we pride ourselves on providing professional installation for all our customers in West Palm Beach. However, for the DIY enthusiast, our shutters are designed for a precision fit that makes installation straightforward.
If you have measured your windows and received your custom WPB Shutters, follow these simple steps to ensure a perfect, lifetime-guaranteed fit.
If you measured for Plantation shutters, follow these simple installation steps:
Before starting, clear the area around your window. Lay down a drop cloth or use the shutter packaging to protect your floors and the shutter finish from scratches.
Layout: Lay out the four frame pieces (Top, Bottom, Left, and Right) on the floor in front of the window.
Match Corners: Match the mitered corners. Our frames come with pre-routed slots.
Insert Keys: Insert the provided plastic corner keys into the slots.
Secure: Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the frames together until the mitered joint is flush and tight.
The secret to a smooth-operating shutter is a perfectly square frame.
Place the Frame: Lift the assembled frame and place it into (Inside Mount) or over (Outside Mount) the window opening.
Temporary Secure: Once centered, drive a single screw through the pre-drilled holes in the top left and top right corners. Do not tighten completely yet.
Check Level: Place your level on the top and side frames. If the window is out of square, use small shims behind the frame to ensure the shutter frame is perfectly level and plumb.
Our shutters are aluminum-reinforced, meaning they are sturdier than standard PVC but still easy to handle.
Hanging the Panels: Lift the shutter panel and align the hinges on the panel with the hinges on the frame.
Insert Hinge Pins: Drop the hinge pins into place. If you have a double-panel window, repeat this for the second side.
Test the Swing: Open and close the panels. They should meet perfectly in the center without rubbing or gaps.
Now that the panels are hanging, you can make the final “fine-tuning” adjustments.
Alignment: If the panels don’t meet perfectly in the middle, slightly shift the bottom of the frame left or right until the panels align.
Permanent Secure: Once the panels are square, drive the remaining screws through the pre-drilled holes in the sides and bottom of the frame.
Cover Holes: Insert the provided color-matched screw caps for a seamless, “no-screw” look.
If your shutter configuration includes button catches or magnets:
Place the catch on the frame where the panel meets.
Close the panel to mark the spot for the strike plate.
Screw the strike plate into the panel to ensure a “click-to-close” finish.
